Shopping

Virtual Tourist offers reviews of some shops in Talkeetna. But the town is small enough that a short stroll will allow you to discover all that Talkeetna has to offer.

Additionally, the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge features fine gifts and works of art by Alaska Natives from all over the state.

Talkeetna Historical Society

This small museum packs in a lot about Talkeetna. There is a 3D display of the Alaska Range as well as many photos and exhibits about the town's bush flying and mountaineering heritage.

Historic Walking Tour (Free)

The local newspaper, the Talkeetna Good Times, published the Talkeetna Historical District Walking Tour (PDF). This guide contains descriptions of 16 historical buildings. Use it for your own historical walking tour.

Hiking

There are a number of walking trails right from the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge that provide great views of Mt. McKinley and a chance to experience the flora and fauna of the area up close. Or, from downtown head toward the river where a number of trails allow you to view the powerful and majestic confluence of the Susitna, Talkeetna, and Chulitna rivers.
