Executive ChefMeet Executive Chef Matthew Zimny

Matthew Zimny, a native of Michigan, arrived in Alaska over ten years ago. Matthew started his career cleaning a neighborhood bakery after school at the age of 15, then later began cooking at a local restaurant.

Matthew first moved to Alaska in 1998 as a seasonal restaurant employee in Seward.  Later, moving to Minneapolis for a short time, Matthew realized his passion for cooking at The Sample Room, a tapas style restaurant where everything was made from scratch.  His time as Sous Chef there defined his style of cooking, using locally grown products with an emphasis on quality cooking.

Moving back to Seward, Matthew became part of the CIRI Alaska Tourism Corporation team in 2004, working at Seward Windsong Lodge, as the Sous Chef at The Resurrection Roadhouse. Working along side Executive Chef Erik Slater, Matthew honed his culinary skills that eventually led him to become the Executive Chef of the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge in 2009.

Since becoming the Executive Chef, Matthew has lent his time to the Zonta International Organization for Women by teaching cooking classes for the Accidental Gourmet Series.  He has also participated in the community by teaching local cooking classes and successfully coordinated a spring and fall wine dinner at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.
