Getting Here

Thank you for choosing to visit Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. We look forward to seeing you!

Getting Here

You can get to Talkeetna by car, rail, motorcoach, or even chartered plane. We're just two and a half hours’ drive north of Anchorage on the Parks Highway — it’s an incredibly scenic trip. We're easy to find, but if you’re taking the wheel, you may want to download and print our maps for reference.

If you haven’t yet decided how you'll be getting to Talkeetna, we’re happy to help you make travel reservations — just call us (1-877-777-4067) and one of our Alaska travel specialists can help you book rail or motorcoach travel.

Local Shuttle Service

If you choose to arrive by train or chartered flight, our complimentary shuttle service is available from the station or airport. The shuttle is also available from the Lodge to downtown Talkeetna, so if you drive, you can leave your car at the lodge and let us handle the rest.

The Weather

At the beginning and end of the season, in May and September, temperatures range from mid-30's in the morning to about 60° F. At the summer's peak, in mid-July, they range from a low of about 50° to a high near 70°. Alaska can be anything but predictable, though—we’ve been surprised by snow in late May before!. While that's very unlikely, it's always a good idea to dress in layers—particularly if you're planning to spend any time hiking, rafting, flightseeing, fishing... well, really just about anything.

Activities in Talkeetna

If your favorite pastime is sipping wine on the observation deck, gazing at Denali, be our guest.  We've got attentive, table side service and an award-winning wine cellar just for you! But, for guests looking to get up-close and personal with Alaska, Talkeetna offers a wealth of opportunities.

Flightseeing is one of the most popular activities for guests. Circling Mt. McKinley in an Alaskan bush plane, and landing on a glacier? That’s a memory to last a lifetime!

If your interests are more aquatic than aerial, you can explore Talkeetna's rivers and lakes by jetboat, kayak, or raft, or charter the services of a local fishing guide and experience the salmon and trout fishing of untamed Alaska.

Hikes, walking tours, the historical society museum, geocaches, sled dog kennels, shopping, art galleries, dining… there's much more to do. Many activities can be booked once you arrive, but for some of the more popular offerings like flightseeing, we recommend making reservations ahead of time. Call us at 1-8777-777-4067 if you'd like us to assist.

What to Bring

These are a few things we suggest bringing along. It's by no means an exhaustive list:

  • A medium-weight middle layer garment, such as a fleece or sweater.
  • A waterproof, breathable outer layer.
  • Sunglasses

  • Comfortable walking shoes
